About Koraes

Established in 1910, Koraes Elementary School is integral to the community of Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. The school and church were originally located at 64th and Michigan in Chicago and for over 114 years Koraes and our Parish have evolved and grown together fostering strong connections with our Orthodox Faith and Hellenic Culture.  The school, named in honor of Adamantios Koraes (1748-1833), a prominent scholar of Modern Greek language and the intellectual father of the Greek War of Independence, was the second Greek Orthodox Parochial School established in Chicago. The school’s founders, whose vision was to offer education rooted in Orthodoxy and Greek language and culture to ensure future generations' connection to their faith and heritage, have seen their vision come to fruition as Koraes has graduated 107 classes of high achieving learners and Orthodox faithful.

Today, 200 students and over 140 families call Koraes home. Top tier education, cutting edge curriculum, Orthodox faith based instruction and a robust Greek language department have guaranteed students who attend Koraes are lifelong learners, with a moral and ethical foundation rooted in their Orthodox faith.

Our Curriculum

Koraes offers a comprehensive Early Childhood Education Program including a robust PreKindergarten 3 and PreKindergarten 4 program, full day kindergarten, and comprehensive learning experiences that see Koraes students exceeding district norms in reading, math and comprehension. Grades 1-4 continue to see students developing as whole learners with continued acquisition of speaking and writing skills, math applications and social and emotional learning that ensures their development academically and spiritually. Koraes elementary aged students perform above district norms on MAP testing, participate in local, national and international art competitions, and actively participate in enrichment activities, extracurriculars and school clubs.

Our Middle School program, which begins with a soft introduction to middle school expectations and curriculum in 5th grade, and continues through 6-8th grades, emphasizes not only academic success but also cultivates a continued sense of dedication to community, service, and Orthodox Faith. Middle school students routinely graduate from Koraes and are placed in Honors and Advanced Placement classes at both public and private high schools. Additionally, graduates are prominent contributors to their high school communities through sports, academics and service. Many of our students go on to also earn the Seal of Biliteracy on their high school diplomas by passing the B1 Ellinomatheia Exam.
