Our Youth in the Sunday of Orthodoxy Celebrations
This Sunday, February 25, 2018, our Holy Orthodox Church commemorates the 1st Sunday of Great Lent with the celebration of the Restoration of the Icons, remembering the actions of the 7th Ecumenical Council in 787 which defined the use of Icons and their place in worship. This Sunday, also known as Triumph of Orthodoxy, put to rest the Iconoclastic Controversy which raged for over 100 years and restored the Icons to their proper place. As in the past, our Youth will place a major role in our Parish's Celebration of this day. As we have done these past several years, ALL of our PARISH YOUTH are invited to bring an Icon and be a part of the Procession. We ask all of our Youth to sit in Sunday Church School section by grade and limited Icons will be available for Children who haven't brought Icons.
This is what we have arranged to have all of our children involved in this great celebration:
Prior to the Grand Procession, we will call for the children in the pews to take their places and our Sunday Church School teachers will marshal everyone to their designated places:
Children in ALL grades will process in a line to the designated area on the Solea (marble close to Holy Altar).
- Adults - please do not take the children's seats while the children are participating in the procession. We need our Adults / Parish Council to help ensure that the pews where the children are seated are reserved for them to return to their seats once the procession is completed.
Altar Boys (4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th grades, High School, and College) are invited to serve.
In the Grand Procession, the participants will be our Altar Boys, Handmaidens, Parish Council & Archons.
Immediately following the dismissal of services and the distribution of the Antidoron, the children will be dismissed by grade level. Preschool (3 & 4 year olds), and Kindergarten will be dismissed by the School Office. All other grades will be dismissed in the East Room.
Please be a part of this Grand Celebration! For more information, please email Fr. Tom at tomdemed@aol.com or call the Church Office at (708) 974-3400.
