G.o.a.l – Greek Orthodox Athletic League – Basketball (Metropolis of Chicago Sponsored Event)
The GOAL of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago is a home for athletics that traces its roots back over 50 years. Its focus is growing the principles of healthy competition, sportsmanship, and fellowship through its offerings for our youth and young adults. The GOAL’s offerings include: (1) the GOAL Basketball League for 3rd-12th Graders, along with its Men’s League; (2) the Metropolitan Iakovos Memorial Thanksgiving Tournament; and (3) softball and basketball tournaments for youth & young adults throughout the year. The leadership of the GOAL includes its Commissioner and Executive Board of volunteers. SSCH Contact: George Crosby oversees the program and may be contacted at 708-974-3400. Participation open to: 4th-6th grade Biddy team; 6th -8th Grade School team; 9th -12th grade High School boys. Practices are held: Each basketball team practices once a week beginning the last week of September with tryouts. The playing season begins in November and lasts until the weekend prior to the start of the Great Lent. Practices are held at Church. Purpose: The Greek Orthodox Athletic League offers our parish youth an opportunity for inter-church fellowship within an athletic setting. |
