St. Tatiana's Handmaidens Program

Under the auspices of the Sunday Church School, again this year we will have a program for our young ladies currently enrolled in grades 5th-8th.  This program is entitled “The Handmaidens.”  The purpose of the Handmaidens is to give our young ladies an opportunity to serve God on Sunday mornings during the Divine Liturgy and to learn about female Saints and women who have been important to the Orthodox Church.  The Handmaidens is a great group of young ladies who have made a commitment to attend monthly meetings and to arrive at church ready to serve our Lord no later than 9:30 on their assigned Sunday.

Currently, the ministry of the Handmaidens includes the following:

Managing the candles in the church and narthex

Passing out worship guides to parishioners entering the narthex

Welcoming the faithful entering the narthex

Assisting with the young Sunday Church School children

Keeping the icons in the narthex clean

Reading the Epistle lesson

Learning to prepare and share in the preparation of liturgical elements, such as:  prosforo, koliva for memorial services incense, and candles

Special projects will be planned during the year.  Also, during the meetings, the girls will have fun doing projects, learning about the lives of female Saints, and learning important information about the Orthodox Church.  Guest speakers will occasionally be invited to teach special information to the young ladies.  The Handmaidens is under the capable direction of the following Sunday Church School teachers:  Mrs. Deanne Savide and Mrs. Maryan Ganzer.  As the program evolves, it is the hope of everyone involved to truly make this an exciting experience for all the young ladies who have offered their service to Him and His people.
