Fee: In 2010, fees are: $80 for K-1st grades; and $110
for 2nd through 8th grades
Purpose: To learn the virtues of good teamwork, as well as
winning and losing well, in an atmosphere of fun and fellowship in
Christ. “Try outs” are held. Every child is scheduled to play. All games
are professionally refereed. An All-Star team is chosen which represents
the church at the Junior Olympics.

J.O.Y. - Junior Orthodox Youth
- Basketball

Participation open to: Boys age 7-12 years old and Girls
age 7-13 years old.
Games are held: Games played on a 12-game per season
schedule. Game days are Saturday mornings, from mid-September tryouts
until the week before Lent begins. (The schedule depends upon the
beginning of Lent.) Coaches determine the practice dates. The coaches
and assistant coaches beginning in August, have two pre-season meetings,
followed by meeting at the half-point of the season or a meeting
preceding the playoff games.
Fee: $110.00 per child (7-13), $50 per child for “Rookie”
Camp.
Purpose: To learn the virtues or good teamwork, as well as
winning and losing well, in an atmosphere of fun and fellowship in
Christ.
Activities: J.O.Y. Basketball is a unique intra-mural
league which allows all children interested in playing basketball the
ability to do so. "Try outs" are held merely to divide talents evenly.
Also, every child is guaranteed to play at least one full quarter per
game and oftentimes it may be more. All games are professionally
refereed. An All-Star team is chosen prior to the play-off games which
then represents the Church at the Junior Olympics the following Spring.
Each year an Awards Banquet and a 2-hour Retreat are offered.

G.O.A.L. - Greek Orthodox
Athletic League - Basketball
A Metropolis of Chicago Sponsored Event.
Contact: Athletic director is Jim Stavrou. Coaches are
Andy Kladis and John Theodore for grade school boys,
Angela Kladis and Nicolette Kametas for the girls, and Angelo Fotopoulos for the high school
boys. Jim Stavrou oversees the program and may be contacted at
708-974-3400.
Participation open to: 6th -8th grade boys; 7th -12th
grade girls; 9th -12th grade boys. (There are three basketball teams
available.)
Practices are held: Each basketball team practices once a
week beginning September 2009 with tryouts. The playing season begins
in November and lasts until the weekend prior to the start of the Great
Lent. Practices are held at Church.
Fee: $40 Athletic Registration Fee
Purpose: The Greek Orthodox Athletic League offers our
parish youth an opportunity for inter-church fellowship within an
athletic setting.
Activities: Basketball practice and weekly competition
within the Metropolis league.
CHEERLEADING
Contact: Nicole Marx.
Participation open to: 6th grade girls and over.
Practices are held: Once-a-week at the gym, September
through February
Fee: $40 Athletic Registration Fee
Purpose: Encourages teamwork, church spirit, and
socialization.
Activities: Practicing dance routines and performing at
half-time during basketball games.
MEN'S BASKETBALL
Contact: Angelo Fotopoulos at 708-598-1977.
Participation open to: Adult men, 18 and up.
Games are held: Wednesday nights at 5:00 p.m. in the gym.
(Gym Closed: June 19 - August 30)
Fee: Weekly Donation. (Church membership also encouraged)
Purpose: Athletic activity for exercise and socializing in
the atmosphere of the church.
Activities: Playing basketball for fun and health.

Participation open to: 7 year olds through Adult.
Meetings are held: Our own parish try-outs and meetings are held
approximately one month before the Olympics at the church.. The Olympics
are held on the church grounds and at Stagg High School and Moraine
Valley Community College on Memorial Day Weekend. (Friday, Saturday and
Sunday).

Fee: $25 (Parish registration / T-Shirt Fee)
Purpose: The Junior Olympics encourages athletic competition and
fellowship on a Metropolis-wide scale. The program has the participation
of over 35 Parishes on average with over 2,000 participants each year
and consists of three days of sporting, social, and spiritual events.
Activities: Events for the athletic participation are as follows:

Girls, 8-18 years old.
- 10-K Run: Boys, Girls
and Adults, 13-99 years old.
- Tennis: Boys and
Girls, 13-18 years old.
- Table Tennis: Boys and
Girls, 13-18 years old.
- Chess: Boys and Girls,
8-18 years old.
- Checkers: Boys and
Girls, 8-18 years old.
- Backgammon/Tavli: Boys and Girls,
8-18 years old.
- Basketball: Boys and
Girls, 7-13 years old.
- Soccer: Boys and
Girls, 7-16 years old.
- Softball: Boys and
Girls, 13-18 years old.
- Volleyball: Boys and
Girls, 13-18 years old.
- Bowling: Boys and
Girls, 13-18 years old.
- Wrestling: Boys and
Girls, 9-18 years old.
Events for Special Needs children are
also included.
Many volunteers
are needed to help run this event. Coaches, advisors, set-up,
maintenance, and concession volunteers are needed.
